Moving can be a blessing and a curse. You’re about to make a huge transition in life, full of new experiences and memories. On the other hand, packing up and moving out of a place you once called home can be very difficult and emotional. Not to mention it can be a real pain to sort out all the items and memories you have once cherished and decided which of them are going to come with you.
If you’re about to move and don’t know where to start, you’re in the right place. Here are a few steps you should take while preparing to move:
Create A Moving Journal
Before you start moving anything, you’re going to want to set up a game plan. Creating a moving journal will be hugely beneficial as it will allow you to plan out things such as what your moving schedule will be, which rooms will be first, where you will place your items and more.
Start Sorting Through Your Stuff
After you’ve planned it out, start going through your things. This will be one of the longest parts of the preparation process, assuming you have a decent amount of stuff. You’re going to want to make an inventory of everything you find so by the end of it, you know the exact number of items in your house as well as what they are and where they are. From this point, it will be easy to sort out which items are staying and which got to go.
Throw Out The Junk
Go through the inventory list and decide which items you’re talking to your new place and which items are getting thrown out. You only want to bring the essentials to your new home so you don’t start off with a cluttered household.
Place Extras in Storage
If they are some items that you just can’t decide what to do with them, consider buying a storage unit and keeping them there temporarily. Then after the move has been completed, you can take the time to decide which items are worth keeping. This is going to save you time as well as letting you focus on other aspects of moving instead.
Purchase Moving Supplies
Now that you have gone through your house and sorted out all of your items, it’s time to pack them up. You’re going to need to buy a variety of moving supplies
such as boxes, packing tape, packing paper, plastic wrap and bubble wrap.
Contact A Moving Company or Ask Friends
Moving everything by yourself would take days, you’re going to need to find some outside help if you can’t handle moving on your own. Contact a reputable moving company
that can provide their own moving truck, ramps and dollies. If contacting a moving company is too expensive, see if you have any friends or family that would be willing to help.
Clean Out The House Before You Leave
The last thing to do before taking all your boxes and heading to your new place is to make sure you’re old home is nice and clean for the new residents.Moving can be fun and exciting if you let it be. Just make sure to prepare beforehand. You might be scared about moving to a new location but don’t worry, you have a plethora of new experiences and new memories waiting to be made.
